Restoration
Traditional landscaping projects use aesthetically pleasing plants that are typically not native to the region. Instead, Ecos uses landscape design practices to bring native communities to residential yards and workplaces. All plants are locally sourced native species to craft functional natural spaces to delight and inspire our clients and showcase their commitment to environmental health.
Ecos also services wildlands to build climate resistance, improve biodiversity, and support existing native ecosystems. Ecos uses a variety of restoration methods including managing invasive species, planting native communities of perennials, shrubs, and trees, and ensuring that where invasive plants are removed, native species will be planted.
Invasive Species Management
Invasive species are very disruptive to native ecosystems because they lack predators and typically out compete native species. By managing these invasives, native species can be preserved and flourish. To protect native communities during management projects, Ecos strives to disturb neighboring communities as little as possible and use small amounts of pesticides only when needed.
Forest Health Assessment and Management
Ecos conducts full health assessments of urban ecosystems in places like parks and cemeteries as well as wildland ecosystems including forests and preserves. Certified Ecos team members conduct a series of assessments including ISA Tree Risk Assessments with TRAQ, forest diversity assessments, and tree health assessments related to disease and pests. Based on assessments, Ecos monitors forest health, treats trees for pests and diseases such as Hemlock Woolly Adelgid, provides planting recommendations, identifies emerging threats, and works to improve climate resilience and biodiversity.
Grant Management
The Ecos grant writing team has a history of successfully earning millions of dollars each year for clients while building and maintaining relationships with reporters. We provide grant management services including grant seeking, grant writing, grant administration, and reporting for clients ranging from nonprofits to municipalities.

Trainings and Workshops
Ecos works closely with WNY Wild Ones to provide community members with trainings and workshops. WNY Wild Ones is a non-profit organization, and their mission is to “promote native landscapes through education, advocacy, and collaborative action.” They strive to improve the quality of Earth’s resources, habitats, and biodiversity through the planting of native species in the Western New York region. Trainings will be geared towards work force development needs including the 35-hour National Green Infrastructure Certification, environmental restoration, invasive species management, and beyond.
